Situation
The Irish town of Dunmore needed to renew its sewage system, which was no longer fit for purpose. Its main weak point was the pumping station: the heavily fouled, unstrained sewage handled often clogged the pumps installed. All this made expensive system shutdowns and frequent maintenance necessary.
So Dunmore Town Council was looking for more effective electric pumps which would eliminate blockages and repairs, reducing maintenance costs and increasing energy efficiency.
Solution
Dunmore's sewage treatment works receives unstrained, heavily fouled civil wastewaters. A large free passage is necessary to prevent fouling of the pumps.
Given these factors, the municipal plant's management identified Zenit Uniqa as the ideal electric pump, able to guarantee complete resistance to fouling, reliability and energy efficiency.
Thanks to modular design, which provides the basis for a large number of motor-hydraulics-material combinations, the Uniqa range offers models optimised for their intended applications, guaranteeing users high performance and low energy consumption.
After in-depth analysis by our engineers and the customer, the Uniqa ZUG V 100C 30/4 AD 190 was selected.
This Uniqa version, with Vortex impeller, provides a full free passage of 100 millimetres and high hydraulic heads.
The system includes three Uniqa units in a dry-chamber, in-line installation. Each pump has a jacket with Zenit an exclusive closed-circuit cooling system, ruling out all contact between the cooling fluid and pumped liquid.
After various tests and an exchange of documentation with the Dunmore plant's operators, the Zenit Group supplied the Uniqa electric pumps to our trading partner, EPSWater, which successfully completed the installation.
Benefits
The Dunmore pumping station is now perfectly able to manage the unstrained solids flowing through the sewers.
No expensive plant stoppages (2,000€ a time) or pump fouling have occurred since the Zenit Uniqa pumps were installed.
What's more, the plant operates which high energy efficiency, ensuring low running costs and minimal environmental impact, to the Dunmore Town Council's great satisfaction.
